Nissan Announces Voluntary Recall of Certain 1993 Through 1998 Quest Minivans

- Approximately 268,000 Vehicles Involved -

GARDENA, Calif. - Nissan North America, Inc. announced a voluntary safety recall campaign on 1993 through 1998 model year Federal model Quest minivans manufactured from April 13, 1992 through August 2, 1998 and all 1993 through 1997 model year California model Quest vehicles manufactured from April 13, 1992 through September 1, 1997. Approximately 268,000 vehicles are involved in the campaign.

On some Quest minivans manufactured during these time periods, the fuel tank vent hose could develop cracks over a period of time.  If (1) the fuel tank is overfilled, (2) the vehicle is driven only a short distance after refueling, and (3) the fuel tank heats up significantly, the fuel in the tank can expand into the vent hose and cause a leak.  No fires or injuries have occurred due to this malfunction.

To repair this condition at no cost to the customer, Nissan dealers will replace the existing vent hose and install a new hose made from a different type of rubber.  Nissan has informed the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration of this recall and mailed notification letters to affected owners on February 5, 2001 requesting them to contact their dealer as soon as possible, even if a fuel leak or fuel odor is not present. Nissan also recommends that owners of affected vehicles, when refueling, not add fuel after the fuel pump nozzle shuts off automatically. Owners of affected vehicles can call 866/777-7534 with any questions. This safety recall does not apply to any other Nissan vehicle. Nissan is committed to a high level of customer service and is working with its dealers to address this condition for Quest customers.
