Porsche to invest approximately 100 million DM in Zuffenhausen

Board of directors gives new engine production plant green light

Stuttgart - Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, is to build a new engine production plant in Zuffenhausen in which the sports car manufacturer will invest approximately 100 million DM. Construction work will begin by the middle of next year and the new plant is to be ready to begin production by the end of 2003. The plant will provide a yearly production capacity of over 80,000 engines. The overall surface area of the new plant, situated between Strohgäu, Ade and Schützenbühl streets in Zuffenhausen, is approximately 15,000 square metres, of which 9,000 square metres will be devoted to production.

Up to now, 500 employees have been producing engines for the 911 and Boxster model ranges in Zuffenhausen. The future production of the Cayenne engines will see the creation of approximately 120 more jobs. The majority of these positions will be filled by employees whose previously temporary contracts will be made permanent.

Dr. Wendelin Wiedeking, chairman of the board of directors of Porsche AG: "This decision has not only ensured our continued growth, but has also realised a considerable part of the agreement reached in July 2000 between management and the factory committee to further develop the Zuffenhausen site. We also consider this vote as proof of dedication to our headquarters, which will additionally profit from the building of engines for the Cayenne, which is produced in Leipzig. The beating heart of every Porsche car will therefore continue to come from Zuffenhausen in the future.
