.
WINNIPEG, July 24, 1999-The Manitoba Cancer Treatment and Research Foundation will have a new Ford Windstar to provide transportation for women undergoing breast cancer screening in Winnipeg.

Gaunt noted the Manitoba Breast Cancer Screening Program provides mammograms to women aged 50 to 69. "Successful treatment of breast cancer requires early detection, that's why mammograms are so important…mammograms save lives," she said. The Pan Am Ford Windstar, bound for the Manitoba Cancer Treatment and Research Foundation for the next two years, is one of over 800 vehicles Ford of Canada and its Winnipeg dealers are providing for use during the 1999 Pan Am Games, from July 23 to August 8, 1999.

Ford of Canada's support for breast cancer research and awareness includes corporate sponsorship of the 26-city, 1999 CIBC Run for the Cure which raises funds for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. In fact, Gaunt led Team Ford through the 5 km Run through the streets of Winnipeg last year. All 38 Ford and Lincoln-Mercury dealerships in Manitoba participated in the 1998 CIBC Run for the Cure, a feat Ms. Gaunt described as "unprecedented" among dealerships across Canada. Manitoba-based Ford and Lincoln-Mercury dealerships, along with employees of Ford of Canada and Ford Credit Canada, were honoured with the Corporate Spirit Award.

This year marks Ford of Canada's third year as a national sponsor of the CIBC Run for the Cure. To date, it has raised tens of thousands of dollars for breast cancer research. Ford Motor Company has also been a long-time supporter of the Susan G. Komen Foundation, the largest American funding source of research dedicated to breast cancer.
