All-New SEAT TOLEDO

September 8, 1998 - SEAT will launch this autumn the all-new Toledo, a model which will expand the brands presence in the upper medium sector. Seventy percent of the sales in the European market are made up of 4-door saloons and the all-new SEAT is following this trend in this key sector. The new Toledo measures 4.44m long and offers a big luggage capacity with a boot of 500 litres.

This is the first SEAT designed under the new image of the marque, with a distinctive new frontal design and new and unique character. The new Toledo is characterised by dynamic exterior styling with sporting links, which underline its Latin origin. The car also features advanced aerodynamic qualities, which contribute to reinforcing its quietness and refinement on the road.

The selection of engines range from 1.6 100bhp (74 kW) with 1.8 20V 125bhp (92 kW) the next step up, both will have automatic gearbox as an option. The offer of petrol engines is topped by the refined and flexible 2.3 litre V5 150bhp (110 kW) engine. The state-of-the-art direct injection turbo diesels of 90 and 110bhp (66 and 81 kW) will satisfy the anticipated demand for these prestigious highly economical units.

 

Lear Corporation Promotes Thomas L. Saeli, Leslie A. Touma to Vice President

Southfield, Mich., September 1, 1999 - Lear Corporation today announced the appointments of Thomas L. Saeli as Vice President -- Mergers and Acquisitions and Leslie A. Touma as Vice President -- Corporate Relations.

In his new position, Saeli is responsible for Lear's global merger and acquisition activities, reporting to Lear Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Donald J. Stebbins.

As Vice President -- Corporate Relations, Touma is responsible for the direction and management of Lear's corporate communications, government relations, community relations and marketing communications functions worldwide. She reports to Lear Vice Chairman James H. Vandenberghe.

Saeli joined Lear in 1998 as Director of Mergers and Acquisitions prior to being appointed to his current position. He previously was employed with The Oxford Investment Group in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan since 1998, most recently serving as a Vice President. Saeli earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Hamilton College in Clinton, New York and a Masters of Business Administration in Finance and Accounting from Columbia University in New York, New York. He and his wife, Molly, reside in Birmingham, Michigan with their four children.

Touma joined Lear in 1994 as Director -- Corporate Communications. Prior to joining Lear, she served as policy advisor to Michigan Governor John Engler on international trade issues. She also served as a policy analyst on strategic and theater nuclear defense issues at the U.S. Defense Department. In that capacity, she was a member of the U.S. Strategic Arms Control Delegation in Geneva, Switzerland and served at the U.S. Mission to NATO in Brussels, Belgium. After taking a leave of absence in 1998 to campaign as the Republican candidate to represent Michigan's 12th Congressional District, Touma returned to Lear early this year as Director -- Corporate Relations.

 

General Motors Hires Chief Technology Officer

DETROIT, September 3, 1999 - General Motors announced today the appointment of Anthony (Tony) E. Scott to the position of Chief Information Technology Officer of its Information Systems & Services (IS&S) division. Mr. Scott will report to Ralph J. Szygenda, vice president and chief information officer for the company.

As Chief Information Technology Officer, Mr. Scott will be responsible for defining the information technology computing and telecommunications architecture and standards across all of the company's business globally.

Mr. Scott joins General Motors IS&S from Bristol-Myers Squibb where he was Vice President, Information Management for the Shared Services Group. He has also held positions as Senior Director, Technology Knowledge Organization with Price Waterhouse; Vice President of Engineering with Uniteq Application Systems; and Manager, Worldwide Information Resources with Sun Microsystems.

Mr. Scott completed a BS degree from the University of San Francisco in Information Systems Management and a Juris Doctorate from Santa Clara University. He, his wife and two teenage sons are relocating from New Jersey.
