HANDAR4.GIF.gif (182 Byte)  Ex-BMW Reitzle Joins Ford Motor Company; Jaguarīs Scheele Elected European Senior Vice President
DEARBORN, Mich., March 19, 1999 -- Ford Motor Company President and CEO Jacques Nasser today named Dr. Wolfgang Reitzle group vice president of the newly created Premier Automotive Group within Ford. Dr. Reitzle also will become chairman of Jaguar Cars Ltd., and chairman of Volvo Cars, pending approvals. The Premier Automotive Group also will include lead responsibility for Aston Martin and Lincoln.

Nick Scheele, currently chairman and CEO of Jaguar Cars Ltd., has been appointed senior vice president - Ford of Europe with responsibility for Marketing, Sales and Service.

March 19, 1999 - CEDAR RAPIDS, IA - Toyota Motor Credit Corporation (TMCC) today announced the grand opening and dedication of a new, $20 million Financial Services Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The 110,000 square-foot facility provides service for more than 1.3 million customers of TMCC, Lexus Financial Services and Toyota Motor Insurance Services (TMIS) nationwide and employs approximately 400 from the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City area with an annual payroll of over $10 million.

Washington D.C. Wednesday, March 17, 1999-- DaimlerChrysler Chairmen Robert J. Eaton and Juergen E. Schrempp today unveiled the first driveable zero-emission, fuel cell car in the United States that demonstrates a 40 percent increase in fuel cell power and up to three times the range of a battery-powered vehicle. NECAR 4 (New Electric Car), uses fuel cell technology to generate electricity and water vapor. NECAR 4, based on a Mercedes-Benz A-class compact car, reaches top speeds of 90 mph (compared to a previous top speed of 68 mph in its technological predecessor NECAR 2) and can travel nearly 280 miles (450 km) before refueling. In addition, engineers have been able to mount the complete fuel cell system in the vehicle floor for the first time allowing room for up to five passengers with plenty of cargo space in a compact car.

Toyota opened its theme park in Tokyo at the waterfront, the Mega Web. Visitors can take the wheel in electric vehicles and drive themselves between and through the pavilions. They also can test-drive conventional Toyota vehicles and view historical Toyota models.
