Lear Corporation Appoints Patrick Murray Vice President - Industrial Design & Product Analysis for the Technology Division

Southfield, Mich., June 8, 1999 - Lear Corporation (NYSE: LEA) today announced the appointment of Patrick Murray to Vice President - Industrial Design & Product Analysis for the Technology Division.

In this new position, Murray is responsible for managing the company's Industrial Design Studios at the World Headquarters and Technology Center as well as the Product Analysis group which studies current market segments and trends to help determine the future interior products Lear will develop with its customers. He also oversees Lear's new Concept Development Studios with its technical staff and capability to develop 3-dimensional interior concepts both manually and digitally.

Murray joined Lear in 1997 from the General Motors Design Center where he had been employed since 1984. While at GM, he held various positions with design responsibilities in the Pontiac Interior Design Studio, GM's Advanced Concept Center in Thousand Oaks, California, Chevrolet Design Studios, and the Color Trim and Component Design Studios. Prior to assuming his current position, Murray was Lear's Director of Industrial Design and Concept Development Center for the Technology Division.

Visteon has paired its world-class audio and electronic capabilities with prestigious Danish audio-video manufacturer Bang & Olufsen to develop a new level of automotive audio sophistication. It also represents Bang & Olufsen's first venture into the automotive audio arena.

Meritor Automotive and ZF To Form Strategic Joint Venture: ZF Meritor

Las Vegas, June 10, 1999 - Meritor Automotive Inc. (NYSE: MRA) and ZF Friedrichshafen AG, two leading global automotive components and systems suppliers, today announced their intention to form a joint venture, ZF Meritor LLC, to produce technologically-advanced medium- and heavy-duty transmissions for heavy vehicle original equipment manufacturers and the aftermarket, for the United States, Canada and Mexico. The announcement was made at the 1999 International Trucking Show.

The joint venture will combine the strengths of Meritor's marketing and distribution capabilities and existing line of transmission products with ZF's technological expertise to engineer advanced truck transmission components and systems. ZF is a leading global independent manufacturer of transmission products. Sales and service of the complete product range will originate and be managed on behalf of the joint venture by Meritor's 100-person sales department, which will include its North American field operations and aftermarket teams.

 

Weiser Retires, Alapont Named President, Delphi Europe

Troy and Flint, Mich., June 10, 1999 - Jose Maria Alapont has been elected a Delphi vice-president and named president, Delphi Automotive Systems Europe, effective July 1, 1999. The announcement was made today by J.T. Battenberg III, chairman, chief executive officer and president of Delphi Automotive Systems. Alapont will replace Hans-Jurgen Weiser, who is retiring following an 18-year career with Delphi.

With more than 20 years of international experience, Alapont joined Delphi as executive director, International Operations for Delphi Energy & Engine Management Systems in October 1997, in Bascharage, Luxembourg. Prior to this assignment, he was group vice-president and general manager for Valeo's Worldwide Lighting Systems.

Alapont began his automotive career with Ford of Spain in 1975 as a machine and process capability engineer. He held various managerial, manufacturing, engineering, purchasing and operations assignments at Ford of Europe. In 1990, Alapont was named managing director of Valeo Engine Cooling- Spain. In 1991, he was named as their executive operations director for Worldwide Heavy Duty Engine Cooling and in 1992 he was named group vice president and general manager Worldwide Clutch Operations.

A native of Spain, Alapont received an industrial engineering degree from the Technical School of Valencia, Spain, and holds a doctorate in philology from the University of Valencia, Spain.

Delphi Automotive Systems also announced today that Jean de Montlaur will join the company as the executive director of international operations for Delphi Energy & Engine Management Systems and Delphi Chassis Systems, succeeding Jose Maria Alapont, who was named president of Delphi Europe. Montlaur will be based in Luxembourg and reports to Donald L. Runkle, president of Delphi Energy & Engine Management Systems.
