ROVER 75 To Be Sold With Three Year Warrenty
.

June 12, 1999 - The all-new Rover 75, which goes on sale in the UK on June 17, will be covered by a three year warranty. There is no limitation on mileage or items covered during the first year of ownership, while the second and third years are protected by a dealer-backed warranty that provides cover up to a total of 60,000 miles.

The luxurious Rover 75, which has already won the coveted What Car? Car of the Year 1999 award, is the result of a four year, £700 million investment programme which includes the construction of new world-class production facilities at Rover Oxford. The new car is built to exacting BMW quality standards.

The warranty cover, together with the advantageous insurance ratings and the 15,000 mile service intervals means that ownership running costs can be expected to be best in class. Starting at £19,530 (on the road) for the 1.8 'Club', the Rover 75 model range line-up extends through to the 2.5 V6 'Connoisseur' priced at £25,630. The range will be expanded at the end of 1999 with the introduction of 'Classic' specification models with prices beginning at £18,280. The Rover 75 has a choice of four engines; 1.8, 2.0 V6 and 2.5 V6 K Series petrol and the common-rail version of the technologically advanced 2.0 litre BMW M47 turbocharged diesel. AM General Corporation Assumes 6.5 Liter Diesel Business From GM Powertrain
.
June 11, 1999 - AM General Corporation and GM Powertrain today announced an agreement whereby AM General will assume GM Powertrain's 6.5 liter Diesel engine business. Under terms of the agreement, AM General, headquartered in South Bend, Indiana, will take over production of the 6.5 liter Diesel engine as GM Powertrain's plant in Moraine, Ohio, phases out production of that engine next year. GM Powertrain will assist AM General in starting the project and validating the assembly process. The Moraine plant where the 6.5 liter Diesel engine is currently produced is not included in the deal. AM General is currently investigating potential locations in Ohio to build the engine.

AM General will build the 6.5 liter Diesel for both its military Humvee(r) and civilian HUMMER(r) vehicles and for non-GM customers that use the engine. The agreement also provides that AM General will supply service engines to GM's internal parts distributor, Service Parts Operation (SPO), for a period of ten years.

General Motors' applications for the 6.5L Diesel include full size vans, full size pickups and other commercial vehicles. Current plans call for GM Powertrain's Moraine plant to produce all current GM 6.5L Diesel requirements before closing late next year. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

An agreement between GM Powertrain and IUE Local 801 in Moraine, provides that hourly workers at the current GM Powertrain plant will transfer to the new GM-Isuzu joint venture, DMAX. Late next year, DMAX will begin producing a new generation of Diesel engines for light and medium duty trucks at a new plant near the current Moraine engine facility. AM General Corporation is the manufacturer of the High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV, pronounced Humvee) for U.S. and overseas military services, as well as the HUMMER version for the civilian marketplace.
