England. |
MAHWAH, N.J., Aug. 5, 1999 -- Jaguar today announces the
appointment of Ian Callum as Director of Styling. Acknowledged as one of the leading car
stylists of his generation, Callum will be responsible for all future Jaguar styling
programs. He also will continue to be responsible for the design of all current and future

"We were seeking a stylist who would be able to continue Geoff Lawsons approach
to our styling
heritage," said Jaguars Managing Director Jonathan Browning. " Ian has
demonstrated, particularly through his work for Aston Martin, that he has a great ability
to blend traditional styling values with leading-edge vehicle technologies to meet the
requirements of todays premium vehicle customer. He is a natural successor to Geoff

His brief for the DB7 was to carry through the design theme of Sir David Browns
world famous DB series while taking full advantage of modern materials, components and

Vantage and Aston Martin's Project Vantage concept car.
He also has been responsible for a wide range of styling programs for other TWR clients,

responsible for the Ghia Design Studio in Turin and initiated the Ghia Zig and Zag show
car concepts.
"I feel privileged to be joining Jaguar," said Callum. "The company has one
of the most enviable styling traditions in the automotive industry and this is certainly
reflected in the latest cars such as S-TYPE. It is an exciting time to be joining Jaguar,
and I look forward to leading a very talented styling team and contributing to the
companys expansion plans." Born in Dumfries, Scotland, Callum studied at
Lanchester Polytechnics School of Transportation Design in Coventry, Aberdeen Art
College and the Glasgow School of Art, where he graduated with a degree in Industrial

GM,
Diesel Division, And Mowag Consolidate International Defense Vehicle Manufacturing
. |
| LONDON,
Ontario, Canada, August 12, 1999 - Diesel Division, General Motors of Canada Limited, has
announced the acquisition of the privately owned Mowag Motorwagenfabrik AG, based in
Kreuzlingen, Switzerland. The sale formalizes a 22-year working relationship between the
two companies that has focussed on the design development, international licensing and
manufacturing of a world class family of light armored, wheeled military vehicles known as
the Piranha. Financial details of the sale were not disclosed. DDGM and MOWAG began
their long working association in August, 1976 by signing the first license agreement. The
working association was enhanced in 1977 when the Canadian Forces selected the MOWAG
Piranha 6x6 Armored Vehicle General Purpose (AVGP). The Canadian government selected DDGM
as the Canadian based contractor for this order. The Canadian Forces order later led to a
major contract with the US Marine Corps (USMC) for the 8x8 version of the Piranha and
later to an even larger vehicle procurement by the U.S. Army TACOM for the National Guard
of Saudi Arabia. The 22-year association between MOWAG and DDGM has contracted and
delivered a total of 5,000 vehicles in 30 different mission role variants.

Borg-Warner
Automotive Opens Third European Technical Center / Will Develop Shifting Systems for New
Generations of Automated Transmissions
. |
| Chicago, August
11, 1999 - Borg-Warner Automotive has opened a third technical center in Europe, the
Transmission Advanced Product Development Center for Europe (TAPD-E) near Heidelberg,
Germany. The Center's focus will be on advanced product development activity for clutch
systems and control modules for automatic and automated manual transmissions for the
European market. "The expertise of two of BWA's five operating groups -- Air/Fluid
Systems and Automatic Transmission Systems -- will be combined at the Center to develop
shifting systems for new generations of automated transmissions," said John F.
Fiedler, chairman and CEO, Borg-Warner Automotive. "The opening of the Center is
tangible evidence of BWA's commitment to product leadership, and is a clear example of the
positive results we are achieving with our increasingly cross-business approach to
innovation," he said. Initially, 50 engineers and technicians will be based at the
Center. Fiedler said that number is expected to increase significantly during the next
five years.
BWA expects to more than double the size of its business in Europe from $357 million to
more than $900 million. Fiedler said this growth will be driven by three factors: market
trends that are expected to produce a dramatic increase in the application of automated
shifting transmissions; significantly increased use of turbochargers and chain-driven
engine timing systems; and increases in sales ofall-wheel drive vehicles.
BWA's newest European technical center reflects the company's expanding global advanced
technology network. Others include Morse TEC Europe's headquarters in Arcore, Italy, at
which engine timing systems and powertrain drive chains are produced; and the European
technical center for the newly formed BWA Turbo Systems group, which is located near the
Turbo Systems manufacturing facility in Kirchheim bolanden, Germany. |
