Urs Paul Ramseier, an experienced selected adviser, has once succeeded in putting together a fantastic starter field. This years sees a record number of entries and field again looks set to surpass the successes of previous years. The selection in different categories provides an outstanding profile of automobile design over six decades. The return to the roots of the Concorso has made an important contribution to this popularity, by introducing the latest concept cars to the competition. Special exhibitions by Italian designers and the premium brands BMW, MINI and Rolls Royce have completed the picture. Apart from the authenticity certificated by FIVA (Féderation Internationale des Véhicules Anciens), the leading international organization for classic cars, the key features of the event are the elegance of classic car aficionados and make their eyes light up. The unique ambience of the Grand Villa d’Este and Villa Erba with its park located on the shores of Lake Como mean that the Concorso d’Eleganza again gives visitors to the event a unique experience. The Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este is a meeting place for all who are passionate about dream cars of bygone eras and fans of bold new design. First staged in 1929 in Cernobbio on Lake Como, this is the world's oldest and most traditional concours d'elegance. The BMW Group has acted as patron of the concours since 1999 and, as organiser and partner of the Grand Villa d'Este, is deeply committed to the event. Conscious of the rich heritage of its brands BMW, MINI and Rolls Royce Motor Cars, the BMW Group called into being a special company division which comprehensively addresses the theme "Future needs heritage". BMW Group Mobile Tradition cultivates the heritage of the three brands and also organises the highly traditional event. The Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este also opens up a perspective on automotive design of the future. The BMW Group will once again be contributing to this in Cernobbio by presenting three concepts: the MINI Concept Geneva, the BMW Z4 Coupé and the Rolls-Royce 101 EX. Since 2002 there have been additional design awards for modern concept cars and prototypes. This competition, too, has a long tradition at the concours d'elegance: up until the 1950s, the public who attended the event were able to admire the latest creations from the carmakers and design studios.
