Chevy Monte Carlo Retail Registrations Jump 50%

Lineup Expands With Indy Pace Car Replica and High Sport Package

DETROIT - Chevy's all-new Monte Carlo is off to a scorching start for the 2000 model year as retail registrations have jumped more than 50 percent through January versus the same 1999 model year period. Retail registrations for Chevy Monte Carlo were 17,844 for the first four months of the 2000 model year, an increase of more than 54 percent versus registrations (11,563) for the same 1999 model year period.

"Customer reaction to the car has been sensational," said Don Parkinson, Chevrolet Monte Carlo brand manager. "Many NASCAR race fans are so thrilled by Monte Carlo performance on the track that they visit their Chevrolet dealer and buy the production car. They want to be associated with a winner." The all-new Monte Carlo springs from a strong heritage, winning on the street and on the track. The previous generation Monte Carlo was the best-selling midsize coupe in the country for the 1999 calendar year, posting 65,990 registrations. Monte Carlo Pace Car

Monte Carlo excitement is so strong that Chevrolet will introduce the 2000 Monte Carlo Pace Car Replica, which began production in January. Monte Carlo will pace 13 prominent NASCAR Winston Cup events this year; a version of the pace car became the first car to pace two prestigious races in one day last year, the Indianapolis 500 and the Coca-Cola 600.

The limited production Pace Car Replica is Torch Red with Galaxy Silver lower accents, and sports-themed graphics patterned off the real thing, including the eye-catching decal of Taz, the Warner Brothers cartoon icon and Team Monte Carlo's official mascot. Other exterior features include unique sporty aluminum wheels, a ground effects package, specific pace car badging and decals, stainless steel exhaust tips and a NASCAR-styled rear spoiler. Inside, the Monte Carlo Pace Car Replica is Ebony leather with Torch Red leather seat inserts, plus Chevy Bow Tie accents on the headrests.

Monte Carlo High Sport

An all-new 2001 Monte Carlo High Sport appearance package will continue Monte Carlo's tradition of sophisticated styling and heart-thumping performance. "The High Sport appearance package available on the Monte Carlo SS is the next phase of our launch plan," Parkinson said. "Introduced on the heels of the Pace Car Replica, the High Sport takes those exterior styling cues, but puts on a stealthier cloak." The Monte Carlo High Sport features a full ground effects package which includes a NASCAR-style rear spoiler, stainless steel exhaust tips, and a "Limited Edition" instrument cluster. The car, available in four color combinations, also includes the same aggressive five-spoke cast aluminum wheels and high performance Goodyear Eagle P225-60R16 RSA tires as the Pace Car Replica. "We'll produce a limited quantity of Monte Carlo High Sports," Parkinson said. "These two specialty coupes will be among the most rare Monte Carlos on the market - and will distinguish themselves as special versions of the most popular midsize coupe in America - the Chevrolet Monte Carlo."
