Wolfsburg - Volkswagen presents numerous variations of mobile communication of the future at the Hanover Trade Fair 2001: The design study Car Multimedia Passat CM≤ integrates multimedia, internet, the PDA electronic organiser and the PC in the car. Permanent availability and wireless, digital data transfer enable you to continue office work, use services or enjoy the entertainment of a DVD film. All functions are supported by an "electronic butler" which is able to learn and support users according to their preferences.

The intelligent house "inHaus" project, the result of a joint venture between numerous business enterprises and the Fraunhofer Institut in Duisburg, is a pioneering model for future living and working in a networked environment. The house combines the function of a networked household - living area/laboratory, home office, multimedia car and an intelligent garden.

Communication between inHaus and the car is made possible by the inHaus netconnect-Passat: The Bluetooth communication standard is used for communication over short distances. Cellular phone technology is used over greater distances. The netconnect-Passat is thus able to remain permanently in contact with the house. In addition to synchronisation with the home PC, the house can also be monitored from afar.

A Caravelle Business and a Seat Alhambra fitted with DVB-T (Digital Video Broadcasting Terrestrial) digital television offer on-board access to online media services and TV channels. The DVB-T pilot project has been scheduled to last a total of five years before it goes into standard operation. As of 2010, the European governments plan to convert television to digital operation.

Volkswagen is seeking talented new employees in the new technology areas of electronics and information technology. Potential candidates are welcome to contact Volkswagen at the Hanover Trade Fair. Volkswagen is located in hall 18, upper level, pavilion P 14.
